AWABI (Japan) The Abalone is a sea mollusc, related to snails, and belongs to the Haliotidae family.
The beautiful rainbow iridescence is formed as a coating on the inside of the shell of the Abalone.
The Abalone / Paua shells are also called sea opal.
Abalone generally describes the shell of the Paua mussel (source of Mother of Pearl) with a sheen on the inside of the shell.
The unique colourings of the paua shell are produced by the rich sediments (mostly of a volcanic origin) within pollution free local New Zealand waters. It is only found along the coast of New Zealand.
HISTORY
Because it has beautiful color effects similar to those found in opal, Abalone/Paua shells has been used for centuries by Maori people for inlays in mystical carvings and jewellery ornament.

HISTORY, MYTH & LEGEND Amazonite is one of the green stones valued by the ancient Egyptians. It was named after the Amazon River and was worn by the Soth American Indians to protect them from poisonous bites. As he collapsed with grief, his wine goblet slipped from his fingers and the wine spilled onto the statue of Amethyst, thereby giving it its purple colour. Some believe that, today, if an Amethyst stone is placed in alcohol, it will have the same effect! Amethyst is one of the birthstones for February and the zodiac sign of Pisces.
