Aventurine is a member of the Chalcedony family.

The glistening in Aventurine is called Aventurescence. The Aventurescence colour is determined by which inclusions are present. Mica gives it a silver or gold shimmer. Goethite and Hematite gives it a red or grey shimmer. Fuschite gives it a green shimmer.

 

 

 

FOLKLORE & LEGEND

Aventurine got its name from Venetian glass workers in the 18^th century. They were preparing a batch of molten glass when copper filings were eventually knocked into it. This produced sparkles in the glass. The Italian phrase ‘a ventura’ means ‘by chance’.

Aventurine is said to be a lucky talisman, especially for gamblers.

It is a very positive stone of prosperity.
