GEOLOGICAL
Named after the peninsula in Canada, Labrador, where it was sourced from. Labradorite is a variety of feldspar. This stone exhibits labradorescence, which means that when light strikes it from a certain direction, it creates striking colour displays. This is caused by daylight reflecting off layers of atoms that lie side by side.
Usually a smoky grey/green colours, displays peacock blues, greens, copper or red flashes in light.
Labradorite has been found to be a constituent of moon rock.

Labradorite was thought to symbolose both the sun and moon.
Some believe that Labradorite assists in the practice of magic and unleashes the power of imagination.
The native Indians of Labradore named it 'Firestone' because of the play of colours within it.

Lapis Lazuli consists of masses of lazurite mixed with calcite and pyrite.
Lazurite is a silica based mineral which is very rare in nature and is a metamorphic mineral that only occurs in marble.
Lazurite is the main ingredient in the bright blue pigment ultramarine, the colour of which is caused by the presence of sulphur atoms.
Lapis Lazuli is hard enough to carve and takes a good polish.
Has a hardness of 5-5.5 on the Mohs scale.

Derived from the Arabic word lazaward from which the word azure comes from.
The Persians were the first to crush Lapis Lazuli to make the colour ultramarine.
The earliest Lapis Lazuli carvings are thousands of years old.
The ancient Egyptians often used Lapis Lazuli for their seals. They also used it to stop the ill effects of incest as the ancient pharaohs customarily used to marry their eldest sister.
In 1271 Marco Polo discovered old Lapis mines.
